Japan is beautiful all year, and each season has its own signature moment. The right month simply depends on what you dream of seeing.
Spring: late March to April
Cherry blossoms usually open in Tokyo and Kyoto from late March to early April, moving north through the country in the following weeks. Book early, as this is the most popular time to visit. Golden Week (from 29 April to early May) is a national holiday period with busy trains and hotels.

Early summer and summer
The rainy season, known as tsuyu, runs from June to mid-July in most regions and brings lush greenery and quiet temples. Summer is hot and humid but full of festivals and fireworks, and Hokkaido stays refreshingly cool.
Autumn: November
Autumn is many travellers’ favourite. Clear skies and comfortable temperatures suit sightseeing, and the maples in Kyoto and Nara usually peak from mid-to-late November.

Winter
Hokkaido and the Japan Alps offer some of the world’s lightest powder snow, the Sapporo Snow Festival takes place in early February, and hot-spring towns are at their coziest.
Before you go
Azerbaijani citizens need a visa for Japan, so allow time for the application before you book non-flexible parts of the trip.
