Travelling with just a carry-on saves time at the airport, avoids lost luggage and makes moving between hotels a pleasure. This checklist works for most one- to two-week trips.
Clothes
Choose a small palette of colours so everything matches, and pack layers rather than bulky items. Three tops, two bottoms, a light jacket and comfortable shoes go a long way; wear the heaviest pieces on the plane and plan to wash something halfway through the trip.
Cabin essentials
- Passport, visas or e-visa printouts, and travel insurance details
- Power bank and spare batteries; lithium batteries must travel in the cabin
- A universal adapter and short charging cables
- Liquids in containers of 100 ml or less, in one transparent bag
- A refillable water bottle to fill after security, and a light scarf for cold cabins
Smart habits
Roll clothes or use packing cubes, keep valuables and medicines in a small day bag, and check your airline’s current cabin baggage size and weight limits before you leave home.
