Arrival in Zurich
Fly from Baku and arrive in Zurich. Pick up your Swiss rail pass, then take an orientation walk through the old town and along the Limmat river. Overnight: Zurich.
Day 2
Lucerne & Mount Pilatus
A short train ride to Lucerne, then up Mount Pilatus by cogwheel railway and aerial cableway for sweeping Alpine views, before a stroll across the Chapel Bridge. Overnight: Lucerne.
Day 3
Scenic Rail to Zermatt
Travel by panoramic train past Lake Brienz and through the Alps to car-free Zermatt, where the Matterhorn appears above the village rooftops. Overnight: Zermatt.
Day 4
Gornergrat & Glacier Views
Ride the Gornergrat cogwheel railway to 3,089 metres for a panorama of the Matterhorn, the Gorner Glacier and dozens of four-thousand-metre peaks. Overnight: Zermatt.
Day 5
The Glacier Express
Board the Glacier Express for the famous eight-hour ride to St. Moritz, crossing the Landwasser Viaduct, the Oberalp Pass and the Rhine gorge in panoramic carriages. Overnight: St. Moritz.
Day 6
Bernina Express to Italy
Ride the UNESCO-listed Bernina line over the Alps to Tirano, past Lago Bianco and the Brusio spiral viaduct, then continue by coach to Lugano. Overnight: Lugano.
Day 7
Lugano & Lake Lugano
A relaxed day on the Ticino shore: the lakeside promenade, the funicular up Monte San Salvatore and a boat trip to the village of Morcote. Overnight: Lugano.
Day 8
Gotthard Route & Departure
Head north through the Ticino capital of Bellinzona and its castles, then through the Gotthard Base Tunnel to Zurich for the flight home to Baku.
